Chicago Climate Package
Chicago is located on a plain that is about 40 feet above Lake Michigan, along the lake’s southwest shore. Lake Michigan averages 579 feet above sea level. Except along the lakeshore, topography does not significantly affect airflow in or near the city. It does, however, often permit air masses moving from the north to reach the shore areas, an hour or more, before affecting western parts of the city.
